Russ Henry is a versatile musician renowned in the Southern California region where he now resides.
Born on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao, Russ grew up listening to, and performing, a wide variety of music which includes most popular music from that region: Reggae, Calypso, Merengue, Rancheras, Cumbia, Joropo, etc. Also, Classical, Latin American, American Pop, Jazz and Fusion music. When he performs this melange of musical flavors comes forth.
The Steeldrum or Pan (so named in Trinidad & Tobago, its birthplace) is probably one of the few novel acoustic instruments invented in the 20th century. Since 1948, this instrument has evolved from a three note “biscuit tin” to the 32 note chromatic “Tenor pan” we know today, which is made from a 55 gallon oil drum.
