Vocalist Trish Hatley is one of the most beloved and enduring figures on the West Coast music scene today. With her easy sense of swing, beautiful tone and innate sensitivity to the lyric, she effectively balances technical mastery and genuine accessibility, making her extremely popular among jazz fans and critics alike. Trish performs and records with her own quintet, as well as the vocal jazz trio Trish, Hans and Phil. She has appeared in multiple Pop Symphony concerts and loves “singing with swingin’ Big Bands” whenever the opportunity presents itself. Trish is particularly revered for her mastery of the Great American Songbook. In the words of music blogger Robert Nicisoa, “She sings songs that were written years ago but her approach breathes new life and sparkle into all of them!”
Trish has released eight critically acclaimed CD’s to date; six with the Trish Hatley Quintet and two with the vocal jazz trio “Trish, Hans & Phil.” Her most recent CD “I Remember, 2nd Set,” released in 2015, is a follow-up to 2010’s “I Remember,” a heartfelt homage to the classic jazz standards. “I Remember, 2nd Set” has been well received by critics throughout the U.S. and Europe. Paul Richards of WHLI Radio in New York City describes the recording as “relentlessly and ridiculously good from beginning to end.”
Joe Cardillo creates a unique combination of live loops using percussive beats by thumping his guitar, laying down the chords, and playing bass lines (using the octave guitar pedal). In addition, he sings the melody while often times looping vocal harmonies. Perhaps the most unique aspect of his show is Joe’s ability to open up the songs by picking up any of his four saxophones and playing soulful solos with the loops in the background.Joe’s sound can be described as a melting pot of One Republic, Dave Matthews, Van Morrison, and Jason Mraz topped off with tasteful saxophone solos.
Throughout his music career, Joe has opened up for acts such as Sister Hazel, Dispatch, Everclear, Eric Martin, The Pat McGee Band and worked with Lakewest Studios producer Jack Gauthier (Dispatch, Pete Francis, Rich Price, Cardinal Direction).Joe has brought a whole new meaning to a “solo” act. In fact, when listening to his CD, numerous people have commented their disbelief in one person being able to produce the array of instruments and vocals without pre-recorded tracks. In order to truly appreciate and understand his style, a fan must see him play live at a show. The interaction and relationship Joe employs with his movement of tapping the various floor pedals to create loops and different sounds, while simultaneously playing his instruments and singing provides the audience with a voluminous sound and a distinctive live show that will make them come back for more.
“Joe Cardillo and Friends” is a hand picked super-group of some of San Diego’s best musicians. Collectively they have played over 5,000 shows and have shared the stage with Jason Mraz, Sister Hazel, Foreigner, Donavon Franlenreiter, Dispatch, Everclear, ZZ Top and more. Joe Cardillo Trio play a versatile mix of adult contemporary, rock, blues, top 40, pop, country, R&B, jazz, funk and all your favorite sing a longs. With a combination of smooth vocals, guitar, saxophone, bass, keyboard and drums they have the ability to create different vibes while still sounding like the same band. JC & Friends has a catalog of over 500 songs, are great at reading the crowd, and are natural entertainers. Grammy Award nominee, Eddie Daniels first came to the attention of the jazz audience as a tenor saxophonist with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra. When Thad and Mel first organized their band in 1966 to play Monday nights at the Village Vanguard in New York (where it still plays), Eddie was one of the first musicians they called. Later that year, he sank $400 in a round-trip flight to Vienna to enter the International Competition for Modern Jazz, a contest organized by the pianist Fredrich Gulda and sponsored by the city of Vienna, and won first prize on saxophone. He continued working with Thad and Mel over the next several years and toured Europe extensively with them.

This band is incredible and what an amazing experience to play with them!! I have been singing with them for about 10 years now and my singing partner, Nathan Fry just joined us this year. The band has been together more than 30 years and is truly one of the best big bands around. We don’t do the old swing style that people think of when they think “big band”. We do high energy modern arrangements for this 17 piece band. Our CD, “It’s About Time”, was just released about a month ago and has already gotten lots of airplay around the country as well as noticed in Europe and Japan. The CD features some heavy guest stars including Wayne Bergeron (trumpet), Eric Marienthal (saxophone), Dean Brown (guitar), Bill Cantos (piano), Bernie Dressel (drums), and Gilbert Castellanos (trumpet) as well as the best of San Diego’s musicians.
