Knucklehead Zoo™ (KHZ) are the nation’s premiere, professional break dance troupe. KHZ are the 2003 Star Search semi-final dance champions and first-place winners at the International B-Boy World Evolution Jam. As well, they are the 2-time U.S. National Champions at the prestigious “Battle of the Year” competition, which is break dancing’s equivalent of the Super Bowl.
Hailing from Las Vegas, KHZ stands on the cutting-edge of *B-Boy entertainment. With a unique presentation style that has been described as “GENIUS!” by “Star Search’s” Ben Stein , Knucklehead Zoo is leading the way for the future-school of break dance in the new millennium.
In just a few short years, not only has KHZ managed to capture some impressive competitive titles, but they have also compiled a number of significant credentials to add to their expanding resume. Having performed halftimes for The New Jersey Nets , Minnesota Timberwolves , Memphis Grizzlies , Texas A&M, University of Wisconsin and others, they are the only official break dance troupe contracted by both the NBA and NCAA.
Additionally, several group members presently perform in various Las Vegas revues and the group is regularly contracted at private & corporate functions, tradeshows and special events. Some corporate clients include Kelly Tires, Odyssey Entertainment, Sony and Primedia .
Last year, the group starred in the documentary film, entitled “Planet B-Boy ”, directed by award winning filmmaker Benson Lee (Miss Monday & Black Picket Fence). The film chronicles the journey of five B-Boy crews from around the world, KHZ representing the USA, to the International Battle of the Year competition held in Germany. It’s slated for its debut at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.
Most recently, KHZ was chosen by the Middle Eastern Embassy in Doha, Qatar to represent the United States in a cultural diversity program that would help to introduce Western popular culture to Middle Eastern society. Performing several shows over a ten-day period, including one for the troops at Al-Udeid Air Force Base , KHZ’ show was hailed as “Wonderfully Exciting” by The Doha Peninsula News .
Knucklehead Zoo’s mission is to lead the way for the re-emergence of B-Boy entertainment into the mainstream. With respect to break dancing’s past and an eager eye on its future, KHZ strives to conquer unexplored “territories” and blaze new trails for the B-Boys of tomorrow.
